Clenbuterol (also called Clen) is originally prescription drug designed as a bronchodilator. Recently, the drug has become very popular among people trying to lose weight, although there is not enough scientific evidence to support such use again. The more traditional non-medical use of Clenbuterol is in aerobic sports like cycling. It works by stimulating the release of hormones from the adrenal gland catecholamines (epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine), increasing aerobic capacity, stimulation of the nervous system, facilitating oxygen transportation, increasing thermogenesis and stimulation / inhibition of specific muscles. The results of this action are increased blood pressure, easier breathing, stimulation of the heart muscle, increased body temperature and especially fat and protein burning. It means that this is actually a catabolic drug used in bodybuilding to get leaner, "cut" look.
Animal studies have concluded that Clenbuterol can cause changes in the heart muscle, namely enlargement of the left ventricle. It seems, however, that these side effects can be caused by very high Clenbuterol intake, in the amounts not realistic in humans.
